It has still no explanation for us, but a few days ago Mr Miklós Szüts, friend, father figure, one of the founders of our foundation passed away (‘Szüts does not die, it is not like him’). Many people know that he was a talented painter and a popular public person. Perhaps fewer know that he was also a smart, sharp-minded organiser, and as such, he was one of the founders and curators of our small foundation, Medspot. Sometimes he also forgot what he was doing in Medspot, and this time he asked: ‘My dear Andy’ (or sometimes ‘my darling’, or ‘my boy’), ‘what am I doing in Medspot?’

Without Miklós it wouldn’t be Medspot: in 2015 he got our first ambulance from Prezi (you can see a photo of the delivery below – he loved that we were driving around the town in an ambulance: ‘My dear Andy, can you turn on the blinker? There’s a huge traffic jam.’) Many were surprised: what’s an artist doing in the board of trustees of a medical foundation? I don’t know, but I do know what he was doing. He often understood the big picture before any of us, he was on the alert, told us if he found a communication unpleasant or poor, and in such cases, ‘it’s too much…’, he said or he would write, ‘it sounds silly, take a deeper look’. He midwifed the logo, gave advise about people and often raised money (he was better at that than anyone else). He loved us and considered helping refugees and vulnerable people important. We loved him very much and will miss him terribly. His sense of humour is remembered by all because it was inimitably quick and original.

In this post, I would like to thank my colleagues of Medspot for their help in caring for Miklós without demur. There was a colleague who had only just got to know Miklós in the sickbed, yet he became close to him. He regretted that he had not known him at his full strength, but even in his last days his immense intelligence and his hilarious sense of humour came through: the boys were happy to go to him, they got his jokes and they said on their last meeting, ‘Today, Miklós stopped saying that hello astronauts.’

Miklós! Thank you for everything, we will try to carry on what we have learned from you. The pictures on the clinic’s wall remind us of you every day, and thanks to you, Medspot will hopefully be able to help many more people in need. ‘I hug you.’
